Myefski Cook was the 'record architect' for the build out of this high-end retailer of fine jewelry and collectibles for their entrance into the Chicago market. Located in a vintage building on the magnificent mile of Michigan Avenue, the design challenge was marrying the crisp contemporary style of the stores established image with the strict requirements of the Landmark Commission for the façade alterations of the historic structure. By respecting the traditional forms and materials, but applying a modern restraint, the design successfully achieves the goals of all parties and most importantly to the retailer has been a commercial success. Since the client was new to Chicago and the unique building code requirements, we were also instrumental in evaluating and resolving issues that the Owners previous designs had not addressed. Like many of the products they sell, this project was unique and complex while achieving its ultimate goal to be simple and well crafted. |
